Challenge
The seas and oceans are today extremely threatened by plastic pollution.Nearly 10 million tons of waste are dumped there every year, destroying ecosystems.
The Mediterranean Sea, bordered by many countries and fed by several rivers, is particularly hard hit by this pollution. Every year, some 230,000 tonnes of waste end up there, and it now accumulates over one million tonnes of plastic.
Solution
Wings of the Ocean has developed a sailing mission, aboard the Kraken, a 42m three-masted ship, with the aim of surveying neighboring Mediterranean coastlines (France, Italy, Spain, North Africa) to preserve them from plastic pollution.
The crew will carry out clean-up operations to preserve local biodiversity, raise awareness of the plastic issue and collect data to feed science and carry out research into plastic pollution. In addition, members of the association will carry out awareness-raising activities for the various publics they meet, in order to bring about a change in behavior.

Recent result
Since its creation in 2018, Wings of the Ocean has already de-polluted 4,000,000 m2 and collected around 100 tons of waste through more than 700 actions.
The money will be used for
The funds raised will be used to finance the boat's maintenance, the equipment needed for navigation and the crew's (plant) food.
Goal
15,000 kg of waste collected through 80 depollution operations; and 100 awareness-raising actions.

A community of volunteers committed to fighting plastic pollution on land and at sea
Wings of the Ocean is an association founded in 2018 with the aim of fighting plastic pollution. Its missions are to depollute coastlines, raise public awareness of plastic issues and provide solutions to reduce this pollution.
In 2021, it will become the French association carrying out the most depollutions, with 250 collections, for a total of 60 tons of waste collected.

Remediation project on the Etang de Berre
The Etang de Berre mission is coming to an end, and we're delighted with the work of our teams in the field and the support of our entire community.
Some overall figures on the May to September mission:
- 39 clean-ups
- Over 25 tons of waste collected
- Over 40,000 cigarette butts collected
- 1,764 people made aware
- 37 volunteers involved in the mission
Our action doesn't stop there, we're also present on the Atlantic coast, the Mediterranean coast, the Etang de Thau and the Bassin d'Arcachon!
I won't bore you with the figures: we're collecting more and more garbage... But we're also raising awareness among more and more people, which is very encouraging!
All this is partly thanks to you, so a huge thank you.
We're all working together for plastic-free oceans!
