New toilets and showers for Nepalese schoolgirls

International solidarityWomen rightsInternational
With 1 €,
AMTM - Assistance Médicale Toit du Monde finances:
1 schoolgirl(s) with access to new, fully-equipped sanitary facilities

Challenge

The free school that AMTM - Assistance Médicale Toit du Monde has been supporting since its creation (most schools in Nepal are fee-paying) has been open since 2001 and today welcomes 200 children aged 5 to 13. All come from Dolpo, an extremely poor region that offers no access to schooling.

The school's sanitary facilities had become totally unsanitary (see photo below), due in particular to the increase in the number of children.
While Snowland had just, thanks to a sponsor, completely renovated part of the sanitary facilities, the government has just imposed (at last) the separation of girls' and boys' sanitary facilities in Nepalese schools. But the Snowland school no longer has the means to finance further work to double them...

Solution

This funding will make it possible to build new sanitary facilities, fully equipped toilets and showers, for the 105 Snowland girls.

Recent result

AMTM - Assistance Médicale Toit du Monde has been financing numerous projects to build or rehabilitate sanitary facilities, wells, water purification systems and solar water heaters at a wide range of sites, schools, monasteries, orphanages and clinics in Nepal and India for over 30 years.

The money will be used for

- Installation of 4 toilets and 4 showers.
- Plumbing work: evacuation and connection of showers to the solar water heaters already in place.

Goal

After a few weeks' work, the school's 105 girls will be able to benefit, like the boys, from new, separate sanitary facilities.

This will greatly improve the school's hygiene conditions, and will finally offer the girls standardized, reassuring access to the school's sanitary facilities...
